If it seems like I’m just skipping dates, I promise that I’m not. The book is not daily, but rather, dates chosen by the author for some significance. Today’s subject is the Taj Mahal and the emperor that commissioned it.
Aside from the fun facts about the building, I think the focus of this section is supposed to be about the devotion one ought to have to their lifelong partners. Obviously, not all of us have the time, money, or power to commission temples to our loved ones. And quite frankly I don’t know if we have enough land to accommodate each one. But, we all have the ability to show our loved ones how much we appreciate them on a daily basis. Maybe that looks like doing the dishes when you know how much your spouse hates them. Or cooking dinner once a week on their busiest day. Maybe just actively listening to them as they talk about what’s on their mind. Or, you know, flowers or a night out never hurt either. I guess what I’m getting at is that putting forth the effort show appreciation for our spouse on a regular basis can be our own Taj Mahal. Okay, fine, people won’t be able to see it, and come visit, but it’ll matter the most to the person who receives it. Because remember, the queen that it was built for never got to enjoy it.
Also, oof Ms. Morton is not wrong about the picture of Princess Di in front of the Taj Mahal alone packing a wallop. She stands out so brightly against the pristine white temple. Also also, putting the recommended book on my reading list: Beneath a Marble Sky by John Shors.
