I swear my enthusiasm for this project wanes more and more each entry. I think I was over ambitious, so it’s time to readjust my expectations. Because lets be honest, this was probably never going to be anything more than just my ramblings about an 18 year old book. Which is what I told myself it would be; a project for me. And then of couse you go and pay for a domain and webhosting, and suddenly this could BE something. But it’s not, and won’t be, so I’m going to try to just keep up on my own pace.
I’m late to this entry, obviously. The first part of the entry in the book this time is the poet Robert Burns of Auld Lange Syne fame. We’re encouraged to celebrate Burns Night in honor of the man on his birthday, and drink hot toddies. Welp, I’ve missed the date and I don’t particularly feel like celebrating this man, whom with each passing generation is forgotten into the annals of history. Unless you’re in Scotland I guess.
We also get a brief blip about a Welsh saint, and Henry the 8th again. This blip also has a headline for itself, with the date again, which I find odd. We’re they looking for something on the 26th and just couldn’t find anything interesting enough to fill the date?
Rock Me Amadeus
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is undeniably one of the greatest contributors to music as a whole. His music is still widely recognized by people everywhere, and is believed to have intellectual benefits. Tragically, I do not have any of his works on my Ipod. I do still have my Ipod, but I really couldn’t be bothered with much classical music when my Ipod was new. Here’s the thing though, Wolfgang had a sister. A sister who was just as talented and as much of a prodigy as he was. However, poor Maria Anna was made to give up music to get married. Ain’t that they way of it. I think it would have been a much more interesting section of the book to learn a bit more about her, and the fact that it’s possible that some of Wolfgang’s later compositions might have really been her compositions. It wouldn’t suprise me, what with all the gambling and drinking.
Ms. Morton kindly provides a list of tunes to look up, which I fully intend to do. Also, kudos to her for making sure to mention the poor scholar tasked himself with cataloging all of Wolfgang’s work.
Chinese New Year and Superstitions
Gotta be honest, I really just skimmed this part. I don’t buy into astrology or birth years or any superstitions. I’m not trying to downplay the cultural significance these things may have. They’re just not significant to me. At this time of year I’m less concerned about the year ahead and what “luck” I’m going to have, and I’m more focused on just trying to survive SAD and February.
Pumps
Okay, fine I’m shallow. I’m here for the shoes. I have a few pairs of pumps, but to be honest, I haven’t been wearing heels very often. I’d like to start, because I feel like I’m on the precipice of an age where I won’t ever be able to go back. So, I’ve gotten a pair of kitten heels I’m going to attempt wearing at work. And, I bought my first pair of gently used Manolo Bhlaniks off of Mercari. Here’s hoping they’re legit, but I have my doubts. They weren’t terribly expensive so it’s alright if they’re not.
